Spanish Colonization on the Philippines

The Philippines was a colony of spain for 333years, from 1565 to 1898. we3 were ruled by spain through mexico . when mexico finally won her independence, the philippines fell under the direct rule of spain.This long period of spanish colonization drastifically change the life of filipinos. the philippines was placed under a centralized goverment for efficient administration of the colony. thus, Filipinos became united as a ration under one ruler and one religion. which influenced the filipinos political, economic and social life.for over 300 year,we are under the spanish rule.They colonize us to take advantage of our country,the filipinos and especially and natural resources.Philippines as called "perlas ng silangan" has magnificient beauty.


A country that was so blessed with natural resources but because of its magnificient beauty,spaniards colonized us.They took advantage on hospitality of the filipinos and use christianity to take the control in our country.And they succeded,they rule for 333 years.Under the spanish sovereignity,thirst for freedom occured.Different literary works organizations.Spaniardsw called us "indios"which means idiot.They make us believe that they are more superior than us.


Europe experienced many changes at h\the turn of 16th century.This led to other event that affected the way of life in other part of the world.The philippines is an example the arrival of the spanish colonizers affected the history and culture of the phillipines with the introduction of christianity.One of the aims of the colonizers was to spread the catholic religion in the philippines.This did not however,prove to be easy,for their arrival and the religious doctrine they preached drew.The factors that praved the way for the spanish arrival on our shores are the following:broader knowledge in geography and the science ,the desire to conduct trade with the east,colonialism,and the propagation of catholicism.


Spain and portugal were ahead of the other european countries in the field of navigation.They became rivals in discovering and coloniting new lands,in a bid to maintain their position of power in europe.It was their aim to use these colonies as source of raw materials.to avoid dipute as a result of such discoveries, the two countries signed the treaties of Tordesilias and Zaragoza,with the approval of the pope in rome whose authority was respected by countries allied with the catholic church.
